“Yeah, right. Like that’s going to work.” The stereo blared, “Daddy You’re a Fool to Cry” by the Rolling Stones as he pulled up to Ezra’s street, easing the car to nearly a crawl, he slowly drove by the house. Looking into the yard, he saw his sweet little girl trying to drag a very large watering can from the side of the house onto the path to the garden behind the house.

Nearly swiping a mailbox as he continued to be absorbed by the sight of her, he corrected the car and continued driving. “Cass is here…hallelujah! Thank God! Thank you God, really, I mean it. I have made some mistakes, but you have come through for me. You really have!” Michael had drawn some attention from neighbors by driving so slowly and possibly from talking to himself as he was driving.

Pulling over to the next driveway to turn around, he realized that it was a double-edged sword. They were nearer to him then he realized, there at Ezra’s, but it was possible that they were being watched at this point, which meant that he was going to be very limited as to how and when he would be able to contact them.

Should I risk it and go in? No, I’ll canvass the neighborhood first. He pulled away from the front of the house. He must have sat at the stop sign a bit too long, as he could see Ezra in his white pick-up truck pull up behind him. He was signaling him to roll down his window.
